This document provides the steps necessary to auto-configure VersaMax™ Network Interface Unit hardware.
The following products are discussed:
IC200PBI001, Profibus™ Network Interface Unit
IC200DBI001, DeviceNet™ Network Interface Unit
IC200GBI001, Genius® Network Interface Unit
IC200EBI001, Ethernet Network Interface Unit
All auto-configuration should be done with no bus network wiring connected to the NIU. Empty slots are not allowed for autoconfiguration.
IC200PBI001 and IC200DBI001
1. Apply user power to the NIU with no I/O modules or carriers connected. The PWR and OK LEDs should be on
and green. This will initialize the unit with a null configuration.
2. Power down the NIU.
3. Connect desired I/O modules to the 32-pin carrier expansion port of the NIU.
4. Power up the NIU. The PWR and OK LEDs should be on and green. The FAULT LED should be on and amber.
5. Power down the NIU for at least 5 seconds.
6. Power up the NIU. The PWR and OK LEDs should be on and green. The FAULT LED should be off unless
there are I/O modules connected which require field power and no field power is present. The NIU is now
properly configured for the connected I/O modules. Please reference GFK-1534, VersaMax System Profibus
Network Modules User's Manual, or GFK-1533, VersaMax System DeviceNet Comm Modules User's Manual for
specific details on setting the slave address and data rate.
IC200GBI001
1. Without user power applied to NIU, move the top rotary switch to the A position, which places unit in
autoconfiguration mode.
2. Apply user power to the NIU with no I/O modules or carriers connected. The PWR and OK LEDs should be on
and green. The I/O ENBL and SBA ERR LEDs should be on and amber.
3. Power down the NIU.
4. Connect desired I/O modules to the 32-pin carrier expansion port of the NIU.
5. Power up the NIU. The PWR and OK LEDs should be on and green. The I/O ENBL and SBA ERR LEDs should
be on and amber. The FAULT LED should be off unless there are I/O modules connected which require field
power and no field power is present. The NIU is now properly configured for the connected I/O modules.
6. Move the top rotary switch to the desired SBA X10 value, move the middle rotary switch to the desired SBA X1
value, and move the bottom rotary switch to the desired BAUD RATE . Please reference GFK-1535, Versamax
System Genius NIU User's Manual, Chapter 2 for specific details on setting the SBA and Baud Rate. The NIU is
now properly configured for the connected I/O modules.
IC200EBI001
The FAULT LED should be off unless
there are I/O modules connected which require field power and no field power is present. The NIU is now
properly configured for the connected I/O modules. The NIU autoconfigures after every power cycle.
5. The NIU needs to be given a temporary IP address to allow "Storing" of a permanent IP address. Please
reference GFK-1860, VersaMax System Ethernet Network Interface Unit User's Manual, Chapter 2 for specific
details on setting a permanent IP address.
